Mary Beth Lycett is a woman who has attracted public attention, because of her husband’s career as a football coach. Mary herself is a former basketball star, who played for the Georgia Bulldogs from 1999 to 2003. Mary being an athletic star, it is no wonder that she was able to attract many people’s attention, including that of her husband, Kirby Smart.

Mary Beth’s husband as a football coach is well recognized, having coached some of the highest institutions like Florida State, LSU, and Alabama as well as the Miami Dolphins. Over the years, the coach has led his team to be winners not once but twice, explaining why he is a recognized and respected man.

Early Education and Career

Mary Beth Lycett is a Georgia native. The basketball star began her career as a player at Marrow High School in Georgia. In 1999, she was chosen as Miss Georgia basketball. After graduating from high school, Mary went on to play college basketball.

He played for the women’s college basketball for Georgia Lady Bulldogs. She was a significant member of the team, and she was declared an Academic All-SEC several times. She was also chosen as the MVP of the team.

While she retired from college basketball in 2003, she is recognized for her current efforts in running a charity organization with her husband. The Kirby Smart Family Foundation has been at the forefront of helping children and families that are facing difficulties especially those in Georgia. Parents of Mary Beth Lycett

Paul Lycett and the late Linda Lycett are the parents of Mary Beth. Mary’s father used to work in the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, while her mother worked as a teacher. Mary’s mother was her teacher during her seventh and eighth grades at Adamson Middle School. Mary’s mother died at the age of 62 due to breast cancer.

Marriage and Children

Kirby Smart is recognized as Mary Beth Lycett’s husband. The two met while working in the University’s department, Kirby as a running back coach, while Beth was in the athletic association office.

They started dating in the summer of 2005, shortly after their first meeting. In 2006, the two walked down the aisle in St. Methodist Church in Athens and exchanged vows. Mary Beth has been a big support system for her husband’s career.

Mary and Kirby are proud parents to three children. The two welcomed their eldest children Weston and Julia Smart in 2008. They also welcomed their third child Andrew Smart in 2012. The twins have already shown their interest in sports, following in their parents’ footsteps. Additionally, the youngest is a fan of football.

The whole family is supportive of Smart’s career, which is often shown through their support during matches. While the head coach is in the field, his wife and children are his biggest supporters.
